Most of us are aware of Bitcoin – a virtual currency that has been in and out of the news a lot lately. However the creator of this currency has always remained a mystery.

That is, until Newsweek seemed to have unearthed the elusive creator a short while ago. However, the man they have attributed the currency to has categorically denied having anything to do with it. If you read some of the news reports online concerning this ‘reveal’, you might be tempted to agree with him. That’s why we will refrain from mentioning his name here: because it could well be that he isn’t the creator at all.

All of which begs the question – who IS? And why are they remaining silent over the issue?

Most of the time, when someone creates something they are happy to step up and admit it, so they can enjoy the fruits of their creation. But this isn’t the case in this situation. For what it’s worth, Newsweek is adamant they have got this right, and the man in question is adamant they haven’t (and has hired a lawyer to back up his position). Neither party looks ready to change their position.

But perhaps the better question is whether it really matters who invented the Bitcoin currency. Perhaps the more important thing is to consider whether the alleged name of the creator – Satoshi Nakamoto – is actually real. This is slightly different to the name of the man who has had the finger pointed at him, and it ignores the fact that many think the name is a pseudonym.

In reality the real creator could be out there watching this unfold from afar right now. They could be well aware that someone has been credited with something they didn’t actually create and have no wish to be associated with. Does this mean the real creator will step forward to take the heat off this person?

We shall have to wait and see. While it is possible the creator has been unmasked and is trying to retain his anonymity, we doubt this is true. Somehow we think the story has yet more column inches left to run.

So Who Did Create the Bitcoin Currency?
